About
New York put hundreds of thousands of buildings on identical official bins, and every one of those bins takes daily abuse - dragged, stacked, soaked, scrubbed. LabelYourCan is the practical guide to marking yours so the address survives all of it: what to use, where it goes, and what the city actually requires.
LabelYourCan is a project of Primo Cans, a Brooklyn company that prints peel-and-stick address labels sized for the official NYC Bin. We sell one of the solutions described here, and we say so at the top of every page. Where a cheaper method works, we say that too - a marker really is better than nothing.
Every rule, fine and requirement mentioned here is checked against primary sources - DSNY and NYC311 - and carries a "last checked" date. When a rule changes, the page changes. If we get something wrong, tell us and we'll fix it: info@primocans.com.
Not a government site, and not affiliated with DSNY or the City of New York. For the rules themselves - deadlines, fines, enforcement, how to get an official bin - our sibling site cans.nyc tracks them in plain English. For why every bin needs a number and how the serial number works, see NumberCan.
